Travellers seeking good deals on hotel rooms this year should head to Eastern Europe, according to the hotel price index from Hotels.
The cheapest average prices for hotel rooms were found to be in Tallinn in Estonia, coming in at just £54 per night. Other reasonably-priced destinations in Eastern Europe included Prague (£67 per night), Budapest (£65 per night) and Warsaw (£70 per night).
For travellers able to travel further afield, Bangkok was shown to be good value, at an average of £58 per night for a hotel room. Holidays to Orlando also proved a steal at just £63 average price per night of hotel accommodation.
UK travellers might wish to opt for a "staycation", as the report found that the UK was only 33rd most expensive out of 44 countries surveyed by Hotels.com. Weekend city breaks in London were also shown to be a good option, with the capital being only 23rd most expensive out of the 62 cities in the list. Average room rates in London came in at £114, and the UK average was just £83 per night.
"Britons seeking great value should look at eastern Europe with Tallinn, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest offering tremendous deals," commented Alison Couper, global communications director at Hotels.com. Cheap flights to Budapest, Warsaw, and other East European cities are also readily available from many UK airports.
The most expensive destinations were shown to be Muscat in Oman, where the average price of a hotel room has hit £185. This was closely followed by Monte Carlo, at £170 per night, and Doha at £169 per night.
"The fact that two cities in the oil-rich Middle East figure in the top three most expensive destinations reflects both the small number of hotel rooms but also the strength of demand for premium accommodation from both business and leisure travellers," said Ms Couper.
