When he moved to Europe, J. Paul Getty purchased La Posta Vecchia, a historic site facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 35 minutes to Rome, 25 minutes to the international airport and 25 minutes to Civitavecchia Port.

He set about to transform this former “postal station” into one of the great villas of Europe. When Getty decided to move back to the U.S. in the late 1970s, the current owner, Roberto Scio, purchased the villa and made it his own home. Eventually Scio decided to turn the villa into a 19-room hotel.
From the moment guests are welcomed in the front hall, there is very little hint that one is staying in a “hotel.” Service is highly personalized and delivered graciously, very much in keeping with a stay at a fine country estate.
Today, La Posta Vecchia features antiques, artwork and tapestries that could fill a small museum. In fact, La Posta Vecchia actually has its own Roman museum unearthed during excavations for a swimming pool. Besides the all-year swimming pool and tennis court, the villa now has a new spa showcasing products from Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. La Posta Vecchia’s Cesar restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star and has become very popular with Romans wishing to dine romantically by the sea.
One of the highlights of the property is its convenient location. La Posta Vecchia is a good location for travelers' pre- or post-cruise accommodations. Similarly, travelers wishing to begin or end their trip to Italy close to Fiumicino Airport will find La Posta Vecchia a great welcome or a fantastic way to leave Italy.
