The La Sapienza University of Rome is one of the most important university centers in Italy, with over 400 undergraduate courses, more than 4,500 teachers and 130 000 members making it one of the largest universities in Europe. It stands to the east of the historical centre, close to the Policlinico hospital complex of Rome, which is one of the university campuses.

The university center is accessible by the Metropolitan Line B - Policlinico stop, as well as buses n. 310, 71 and 39 and by tram 3 and 19 - Viale Regina Elena stop (Città Universitaria). In the area there are several 2 and 3 stars hotels. The Città Universitaria is the main campus of the La Sapienza University, which has classes and degree courses' locations throughout the city. Within the campus there are 20 museums, including the botany museum, the laboratories of contemporary art, museums of classical, Etruscan and Eastern Europe art.
